Summer Heat & Sports

You are sitting in the stand or on the field watching your children play it's hot and humid you feel the heat, now think about how your children feel! Children don't adapt to exercise in hot/humid weather as well as adults they get hotter, sweat less and are less likely to drink enough fluids to prevent dehydration which can lead to heat related illness.

So if you or your children are outdoors playing a sport or any other activity in the hot summer heat make sure they:

*Reduce the intensity of the activity to no more than 15 minutes then take a break or slow down.

* Require everyone to drink plenty of fluids-even if they aren't thirsty

* Limited the amount of clothing to a single layer, lightweight and light in color.

* Know when to slow down or call it quits!

Encourage children to know the early signs or symptoms of dehydration:

* Dry or sticky mouth

* Thirst

* Headache

*Dizziness

* Cramps

* Excessive Fatigue

If you practice these simple rules everyone will have a great summer full of summer fun!

Summer Fun

means putting on the bathing suit

and hitting the pool or the beach.

But remember safety comes first, so don't forget the sunscreen, take some swimming lessons if you aren't a strong swimmer at your community pool or some private ones with a friend.

Swimming is not only a great way to cool off on a hot day but also a great activity to keep the body in shape so if you are 6 to 101 jumping in the pool and exercising is great for the body.

All stressed out and hot? There is another reason to jump into the water! Swim a few laps and then float! Floating is a great way to relax and relieve some stress!

And don't forget the Pool Games: Marco Polo, Water Volleyball, Water Basketball are all great fun in the pool.

So jump in and have a great summer.

Last night I watched the final Dancing with the Stars and to my surprise Shawn Johnson won! The Olympic Star turns Ultimate Dance Girl.

The Masters

For all you "Golf Girls" out there this weekend is special for you because The Masters is being played down in Augusta, Ga. not far from the "I am a Girl" Designs offices. Being a Golfer myself and loving the sport I am always interested in reading and watching this great event.

Starting on Thursday with the Par 3 contest until Sunday with the big Winner!
The one great thing about this event is how they bring family into it...on Thursday which is the Par 3 contest the golfers caddie's are family! most of them will be the golfers kids (boys & girls!) or sometimes a brother-sister or wife..how great is that! The golfers say it is so fun to be able to share that day with their family member and have those kinds of memories.

So all you "Girl" Golfers out there hit the links today!

Keep on Dancing

When I was a little girl I remember I would dance around the house, I didn't need any music and I didn't need a partner. I remember how wonderful and free it felt to just dance, to run, to jump to my own rhythm with no cares in the world.

Today I dance a lot less and when I do there is music and I have a partner but I still feel the joy that dancing being out in me and for the moment I don't have a care in the world.

So what do I say to all you dancers out there young and old..keep on dancing! with music or to your own music, with a partner and just yourself..just keep on dancing and feel the freedom in yourself.
